What customers say
The MartinLogan Motion XT B100 speakers earn high praise primarily for their exceptional sonic clarity and detailed performance. Owners consistently highlight the Folded Motion XT Tweeter for delivering airy, transparent high frequencies perfect for critical listening. The soundstage is described as wide and immersive, revealing subtle musical nuances. Build quality is also noted as premium, justifying the investment. While the speakers offer fast, articulate bass, users recognize that deep sub-bass extension requires a dedicated subwoofer for home theater impact. Overall, these bookshelf speakers are highly recommended for discerning listeners prioritizing musical accuracy and fidelity.
Know before you buy
These speakers are quite flexible, with a recommended power range of 20 to 250 watts per channel. Because they have a sensitivity of 93 dB, they can play quite loudly even with modest amplification, but they will scale beautifully if you pair them with a high-quality, high-current amplifier.
They are excellent for both. While they excel in high-fidelity stereo music setups, their controlled dispersion and detailed high-frequency response make them ideal as front, center, or surround channels in a sophisticated home theater system.
While you can place them on a sturdy shelf or media console, the B100s feature secure mounting threads on the bottom. Using dedicated speaker stands is recommended to decouple the speakers from furniture and position the tweeters at ear level for the best possible soundstage.
Bi-wiring or bi-amping allows you to send separate signals to the tweeter and the woofer, which can reduce interference and improve clarity. While not strictly necessary for great sound, it provides an upgrade path if you want to experiment with different amplification configurations.
The B100 uses a rear-ported cabinet to enhance bass output. To prevent the low-end from sounding muddy or boomy, it is best to leave at least 6 to 12 inches of space between the back of the speaker and the wall.
Unlike a traditional dome tweeter that moves back and forth like a piston, the Folded Motion XT Tweeter squeezes air using a pleated diaphragm. This design results in significantly lower distortion, faster transient response, and a wider, more detailed soundstage.
