Papaver orientale 'Aglaja'

Papaver orientale 'Aglaja' produces large, striking flowers featuring frilly, light coral petals with cherry red bases and dark centers, attracting numerous pollinators. The handsome, divided, bright green foliage remains attractive before and after the June bloom. These clump-forming perennials thrive in sunny spots with well-draining soil that tends toward dryness, as they are intolerant of wet conditions. Plants establish roots the first year, reaching 20” tall, and mature to about 30” in subsequent seasons. They are excellent cut flowers if stems are seared after cutting. Foliage dies back by midsummer, which is normal.

What customers say

Gardeners are drawn to the unique apricot hue of 'Aglaja', praising its stunning visual impact. The consistent theme centers on the quality of the plant material upon arrival and its long term reliability. While initial plant health from White Flower Farm is typically excellent, some customers report difficulty with successful establishment or note that the color was not true to type after the first bloom cycle. This inconsistency slightly tempers the overall sentiment, yet established plants are highly celebrated for their vigor and beauty.
