No, this is a dedicated CD transport. It is designed specifically to extract digital data from your discs and send a pure signal to an external DAC of your choice.
The I²S connection via HDMI allows for the transmission of digital audio data and the master clock signal separately. This minimizes jitter and timing errors, resulting in a more precise and accurate sound when paired with a compatible DAC.
It can play the CD layer of Hybrid SACDs, but it does not support the high-resolution DSD layer found on standard SACDs.
The top-loading design uses a magnetic clamp to secure the disc, which provides excellent stability and mechanical isolation. It requires enough clearance above the unit to open the lid and place your discs, so be sure to account for this in your equipment rack.
The milled aluminum and carbon fiber construction is designed to dampen vibrations and resonance. By isolating the CD-Pro 8 mechanism from external interference, the transport can read data with much higher accuracy.
If your DAC supports it, the I²S + Masterclock output via HDMI is the preferred connection for the highest fidelity. Otherwise, the AES/EBU (XLR) output is an excellent professional-grade alternative for high-end systems.
