Millard Block DOF Glass
Best choice for architecture enthusiasts who appreciate iconic design details.
Enjoy your favorite drink in this classic Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Double Old Fashioned glass, featuring a design from the Millard House in Pasadena, California. Frank Lloyd Wright was given free creative rein by rare book dealers George and Alice Millard in designing this house. The Millard House was the first house in which Wright used his innovative textile blocks. Wright gave new life to concrete blocks with a new building system he called "textile block construction," a reference to his idea of weaving concrete blocks on the warp and weft of reinforced steel, forming an interlocking system for the "fabric" of the house. Some of the concrete blocks were embossed on the surface with a bas-relief and others pierced to allow light into the space. Wright designed this home to cling to the site's steep hillside, sheltered among the trees, and created the home's concrete blocks using raw materials found on the property. By using these rough earth-toned blocks, he blended the house with the color and form of the hillside.
