Citronella Mosquito Repellent (Citrosa Geranium)

While the Citrosa Geranium releases a citronella scent that can deter insects, it is most effective when the leaves are brushed against or crushed to release the oils. It works best as a companion to other pest control methods rather than a standalone solution for total mosquito elimination.

These plants are best suited for outdoor spaces like patios, balconies, or gardens. They require significant sunlight to thrive and will likely become leggy or struggle to survive in the lower light conditions typically found indoors.

Citrosa Geraniums are generally considered non-toxic to humans, but they can cause mild stomach upset if ingested by cats or dogs. It is best to place them in containers slightly out of reach if you have curious pets that tend to chew on foliage.

They are relatively low-maintenance. Keep them in a sunny spot with well-draining, sandy soil and water them only when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as they prefer to dry out slightly between sessions.

The leaves have a distinct citrusy, herbal flavor that works well in teas, infused waters, or as a garnish for desserts. Always wash the leaves thoroughly before use and ensure you are not using any chemical pesticides on the plant.
