Briza maxima is an annual grass, meaning it completes its life cycle in one growing season. However, because it is a prolific self-sower, it will often drop seeds that germinate the following spring, effectively returning to your garden year after year.

These grasses are versatile and work well fresh or dried. For fresh arrangements, cut them once the flowerheads are fully formed but before they turn completely tan. To dry them, hang the stems upside down in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated space until they are crisp to the touch.
