What customers say
The John Boos Blended Oak Island Countertop is highly praised for its exceptional quality and stunning aesthetic. Customers consistently highlight its substantial weight, solid construction, and beautiful oak grain patterns, noting it significantly enhances kitchen appeal. The 1.5-inch thickness contributes to a durable, permanent feel. While the blended oak construction offers a unique rustic charm, some prefer a single slab appearance. The primary consideration is ongoing maintenance; regular oiling is essential to preserve the wood and prevent issues. Despite minor shipping concerns and the need for diligent care, buyers find the countertop offers outstanding value, delivering professional grade quality at a competitive price point. Overall satisfaction is high for those prepared for wood care.
Know before you buy
The Natural Oil finish requires regular maintenance with food-grade mineral oil and is safe for direct food preparation. The Varnique finish is a semi-gloss, low-maintenance varnish that is highly durable and moisture-resistant, but it is not intended for direct knife use.
If you choose the Natural Oil finish, the surface is suitable for direct food preparation and cutting. If you opt for the Varnique finish, we recommend using a separate cutting board to protect the integrity of the sealed coating.
Blended construction uses random-length wood strips that are finger-jointed together to create a continuous length. This method is more cost-effective than full-length rail construction while still providing the strength and stability of edge-grain wood.
For oiled tops, apply John Boos Mystery Oil or Board Cream regularly to prevent the wood from drying out. For Varnique-finished tops, simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap; avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers.
No, this countertop is designed with a finished top surface and is not intended to be flipped. The underside is not finished to the same standard as the top.
While the countertop can be trimmed by a professional carpenter, doing so will void the manufacturer's warranty. We recommend ordering the exact dimensions you need to ensure the best fit and finish.
